Asia Cup 2018: Bangladesh announces final squad

The 14th edition of the Asia Cup will kick off on 15 September 2018 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Keeping this biennial tournament in mind, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday named a 15-man squad.
Notable exclusions from this squad are Sabbir Rahman, Anamul Haque and Abu Jayed. Middle-order batsman Sabbir Rahman and opener Anamul Haque were left out of the squad considering their poor performances during Bangladesh’s three-match ODI series against West Indies last month. Sabbir Rahman and Anamul Haque scored 27 and 33 runs respectively in the series. Their positions are likely to be filled by wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun and middle-order batsman Ariful Haque.

Mohammad Mithun played his last ODI match earlier this year. He can bat at number six or seven position. On the other hand, Ariful Haque is waiting to make his ODI debut. He has so far played six T20Is.
All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been retained in the squad despite his finger injury. He is supposed to go under surgery after the tournament. If his injury becomes deteriorated, he would miss the tournament. So, his inclusion in the main squad is a big question. Shakib is the deputy of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza who will lead the national side in this six-nation tournament.
Bangladesh will leave for UAE on September 9. They will take on Sri Lanka in the opening match on September 15 in Dubai.

Bangladesh Squad: Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (Capt), Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Mithun, Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Ariful Haque, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mosaddek Hossain, Nazmul Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Nazmul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman and Abu Hider.
