West Indies takes 1-0 lead with an innings and 219-run victory

West Indies cricket team defeated Bangladesh cricket team by an innings and 219 runs to register their fifth-largest Test victory ever at Vivian Richards Cricket Ground. With this victory, the host nation is now leading 1-0 in the two-Test series. Caribbean bowlers bundled out Bangladesh for 144 runs in their second innings, which ended just before lunch on the third day. The visiting side resumed the day’s play on the overnight score of 62 for six, requiring 301 runs more to level West Indies’ first innings of 406 runs.
Mahmudullah, who remained not out on 15, was the first wicket to fall. His wicket was taken by Jason Holder in his second delivery of the day. The all-rounder gave catch at third slip. However, Nurul Hasan was the only Bangladeshi batsman who played comfortably on a greener and bouncier pitch against the home side. He top scored with 64 runs off 74 balls, his career best so far.
The wicketkeeper-batsman made 25-run partnership with Kamrul Islam for the eighth-wicket stand and added further 55 runs for the ninth-wicket with Rubel Hossain who scored 16 runs. Nurul Hasan completed 50 off just 36 balls, the fastest half-century in Test cricket by a Bangladeshi batsman away from home.
For West Indies, Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder and Miguel Cummins took 5, 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
Bangladesh cricket team scored 43 runs in the first innings.

BCB announced a 16-man ODI squad against West Indies

Keeping in mind the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named a 16-man squad. In this squad, four new uncapped players- Abu Jayed Chowdhury, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Nazmul Islam Apu and Abu Hider Rony- have been selected. Except Jayed and Shanto, other two players have only the experience of playing T20 cricket in national jersey. Getting selected in the first Test match against West Indies, the 24-year-old fast-bowler Jayed made his Test debut.
Anamul Haque Bijoy has been recalled to the Bangladesh team for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies. He last played in the home tri-nation series involving Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in January 2018. Mustafizur Rahman and Mosaddek Hossain have been included as well. Selectors are confident about
Mustafizur’s complete recovery before the start of the ODI series. The cutter master sustained a toe injury during the IPL and as a result, he was left out of the squad that played a three-match T20 series against Afghanistan recently.
Despite having poor form, Sabbir Rahman has been included in the squad. The hard hitter batsman could not even cross 40-run mark in any of his last 11 ODIs. Three-match ODI series between West Indies and Bangladesh will kick off on July 22. First two matches will be played on July 22 and 25 in Guyana while the last ODI match will be played Saint Kitts on July 28.
Bangladesh ODI Squad: Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (captain), Shakib Al Hasan (vice-captain), Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Liton Kumar Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Nazmul Islam Apu, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Abu Hider, Abu Jayed Chowdhury.

West Indies announces 13-man Squad against Bangladesh

The two-match Test series between West Indies and Bangladesh will kick off tomorrow (July 4) with the first Test scheduled to be held at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The second and final Test match will start from July 12 at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
This series has given the home side an opportunity to regain their lost position in the Test rankings. You might have known that the Caribbean team lost their number eight position to their Asian rival, Bangladesh, and moved one step down to number nine. So, winning the series, they can move back up to their previous position.
Jason Holder-led West Indies cricket team will leave no stone unturned to win the series. The host team, unlike their opponent, is likely to get the maximum benefits from the greener and bouncier pace friendly pitches. West Indies fast bowlers, including Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder and Kemar Roach, will be looking to dominate over the opponent batsmen on a fast-bowling friendly wicket.
However, it does not mean that the visitors are not aware of the quality of the playing surfaces. Bangladesh is without their key fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who has not yet fully recovered from toe injury. Rubel Hossain and Abu Jayed, who will have his test debut if selected, are expected to lead Bangladesh’s fast-bowling department. No doubt, keeping in mind the condition of the pitch, both teams will give more priority on using many fast bowlers.
Before the Test series Bangladesh played only a two-day warm-up match against the West Indies President's XI, which ended in a draw.

West Indies squad against Bangladesh: Jason Holder (captain), Devendra Bishoo, Kraigg Brathwaite, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Keemo Paul, Kieran Powell, Kemar Roach, Devon Smith.
