West
Indies cricket team defeated Bangladesh cricket team by an innings and 219 runs
to register their fifth-largest Test victory ever at Vivian Richards Cricket
Ground. With this victory, the host nation is now leading 1-0 in the two-Test
series. Caribbean bowlers bundled out Bangladesh for 144 runs in their second
innings, which ended just before lunch on the third day. The visiting side resumed
the day’s play on the overnight score of 62 for six, requiring 301 runs more to
level West Indies’ first innings of 406 runs.
Mahmudullah,
who remained not out on 15, was the first wicket to fall. His wicket was taken
by Jason Holder in his second delivery of the day. The all-rounder gave catch
at third slip. However, Nurul Hasan was the only Bangladeshi batsman who played
comfortably on a greener and bouncier pitch against the home side. He top
scored with 64 runs off 74 balls, his career best so far.
The
wicketkeeper-batsman made 25-run partnership with Kamrul Islam for the
eighth-wicket stand and added further 55 runs for the ninth-wicket with Rubel
Hossain who scored 16 runs. Nurul Hasan completed 50 off just 36 balls, the
fastest half-century in Test cricket by a Bangladeshi batsman away from home.
For
West Indies, Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder and Miguel Cummins took 5, 3 and 2
wickets respectively.
Bangladesh
