Bangladesh beats West Indies by 48 runs in 1st ODI

Bangladesh national cricket team has brought smile to the face of all its supporters after beating the West Indies by 48 runs in the first ODI at Providence Stadium, Guyana. With this victory, they have taken 1-0 lead of the three-match ODI series. This victory was very special to Tiger supporters because it came after a horrible Test series defeat.
Bangladesh ODI skipper, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, won the toss and decided to bat first, which later proved to be the right decision as the visitors put on a challenging score of 279 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan played a vital role behind putting this competitive score on the scoreboard as they made 207-run partnership for the second-wicket stand. It also became the highest partnership for any wicket at this ground, breaking the previous record made by Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jaywardena who scored 183 runs for the third-wicket stand against the same opponent back in 2007.
Tamim Iqbal played an unbeaten innings of 160-ball 130, including 10 fours and three sixes. It was his 10th ODI century. His 130-run innings also became the highest individual score by any batsman at this ground. Cricket lovers might feel pity for the left-handed all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, as he missed out on eighth ODI hundred. After playing an innings of 121-ball 97, he was caught by Hetmyer off Devendra Bishoo in the 45th. He struck six fours during his innings.
After the departure of Shakib, Sabbir Rahman came to bat, but failed to impress with his performance. He added only 3 runs on the scoreboard before being stumped by Hope off Bishoo delivery. Then came Mushfiqur Rahim. With three fours and two sixes, he scored 30 runs from 11 balls and led his team to reach a handsome total. Mahmudullah Riyad struck the last delivery of the innings for four.
Taking the advantage of having enough wickets at hands, Bangladeshi players were playing aggressive as they hit 10 boundaries in the last 14 deliveries of their innings. They scored 43 runs from the last two overs of their innings.
Devendra Bishoo took two wickets while Andre Russell and Jason Holder took one wicket apiece.
Coming to chase Bangladesh’s 280-run target, the hosts scored 231 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their stipulated overs. West Indies made a steady start, but they lost wickets on a regular basis after the departure of two vitals wickets- Chris Gayle and Shimron Hetmyer. Chris Gayle was run out on 40. Hetmyer, who scored 78-ball 52, was caught by Shakib off Mustafizur Rahman. They lost top nine wickets within 41 overs. Two nightwatchmen- Devendra Bishoo and Alzarri Joseph- then added 59 runs in the last wicket and both remained not out on 29 runs respectively.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Bangladesh’s inspirational captain, claimed four wickets conceding 37 runs in 10 overs. Mustafizur Rahman chipped in with two wickets for 35 while the other two wickets were shared by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Rubel Hossain.
Tamim Iqbal named “Player of the Match” for his superb performance.
Both Bangladesh and West Indies will face each other to play the second ODI match on July 25 at the same venue.

West Indies takes 1-0 lead with an innings and 219-run victory

West Indies cricket team defeated Bangladesh cricket team by an innings and 219 runs to register their fifth-largest Test victory ever at Vivian Richards Cricket Ground. With this victory, the host nation is now leading 1-0 in the two-Test series. The visiting side resumed the day’s play on the overnight score of 62 for six, requiring 301 runs more to level West Indies’ first innings of 406 runs.
Mahmudullah, who remained not out on 15, was the first wicket to fall. His wicket was taken by Jason Holder in his second delivery of the day. The all-rounder gave catch at third slip. However, Nurul Hasan was the only Bangladeshi batsman who played comfortably on a greener and bouncier pitch against the home side. He top scored with 64 runs off 74 balls, his career best so far.
The wicketkeeper-batsman made 25-run partnership with Kamrul Islam for the eighth-wicket stand and added further 55 runs for the ninth-wicket with Rubel Hossain who scored 16 runs. BCB announced a 16-man ODI squad against West Indies

Keeping in mind the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named a 16-man squad. In this squad, four new uncapped players- Abu Jayed Chowdhury, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Nazmul Islam Apu and Abu Hider Rony- have been selected. Except Jayed and Shanto, other two players have only the experience of playing T20 cricket in national jersey. Getting selected in the first Test match against West Indies, the 24-year-old fast-bowler Jayed made his Test debut.
Anamul Haque Bijoy has been recalled to the Bangladesh team for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies. He last played in the home tri-nation series involving Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in January 2018. Mustafizur Rahman and Mosaddek Hossain have been included as well. Selectors are confident about
Mustafizur’s complete recovery before the start of the ODI series. The cutter master sustained a toe injury during the IPL and as a result, he was left out of the squad that played a three-match T20 series against Afghanistan recently.
Despite having poor form, Sabbir Rahman has been included in the squad. The hard hitter batsman could not even cross 40-run mark in any of his last 11 ODIs. Three-match ODI series between West Indies and Bangladesh will kick off on July 22. First two matches will be played on July 22 and 25 in Guyana while the last ODI match will be played Saint Kitts on July 28.
Bangladesh ODI Squad: Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (captain), Shakib Al Hasan (vice-captain), Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Liton Kumar Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Nazmul Islam Apu, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Abu Hider, Abu Jayed Chowdhury.
